Horse from the Tale

Anatoli Ljutjuk

wood carving, ca. 2014, Carpathian mountains, Ukraine

Carved from tree branches found in Ukraine’s Carpathian Mountains, this small wooden horse is much more than a simple toy. Its story began when Anatoli started collecting moving stories from the Donbas battlefield in 2014. Simple notes in a sketchbook soon turned into a new book project: The Tale of a Horse. This little toy became the hero of the story, coming to the rescue of abandoned animals and witnessing many good deeds at the front.

As a symbol of the Book of Good, the Wooden Horse is now a Good Will Ambassador, traveling across Europe to meet people and promote the values of charity, courage, and altruism.
